MEET JALAPEÑO: OUR BOLDEST BITE

MEET JALAPEÑO: OUR BOLDEST BITE

When we launched AOF Ostrich and Beef Snack Sticks, we launched two flavors. Original and Jalapeño. Not because we needed a second flavor to fill out the lineup, but because the Jalapeño earned its place in a way that made the decision easy.

THE FLAVOR STORY

Getting the Jalapeño right required its own process.

That is true of any heat-forward flavor. The challenge is not adding heat. Heat is easy. The challenge is calibrating it so the jalapeño works with the meat rather than against it. A seasoning blend that is too aggressive masks the flavor of the ostrich. Too subtle and you are left wondering what the point was.

What we landed on opens clean. The same rich savory base you get in the Original, built on ostrich and premium beef with a short list of real ingredients: cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, sea salt, garlic powder, spices, encapsulated citric acid, cultured celery powder, and a beef collagen casing. No MSG. No artificial food dyes. No added nitrates or nitrites.

Then the jalapeño arrives. Not a punch. A warmth. A hint of heat that adds dimension without overwhelming the meat. Approachable enough for the whole family, satisfying enough for people who actually want a kick. Kids can eat it. Grandparents can eat it. People who say they cannot handle spice can eat it and enjoy it. The flavor is doing the work here, not the heat.

That balance did not happen by accident. It came from iteration. A lot of it. Getting the smoke time right so it adds depth without masking the jalapeño. Getting the jalapeño level right so it complements the ostrich and beef rather than competing with it. Getting the texture right, firm but not dry, substantial but not heavy. Every element of this stick was dialed in deliberately.

THE NUMBERS

Here is where the Jalapeño gets interesting from a nutrition standpoint.

Nine grams of protein. Sixty calories. Two grams of fat. Less than one gram of sugar.

That protein-to-calorie ratio is not an accident and it is not something you find easily in the meat snack category. Compared to the leading national meat stick brand, the AOF Jalapeño delivers approximately 4.5 times more protein per bite. Compared to the leading better-for-you meat stick brand, it delivers around 50 percent more protein per bite.

Those numbers matter more than they might seem at first. Most meat snacks are built around fat for flavor, which drives the calorie count up and the protein density down. Because ostrich is naturally ultra-lean, the fat is low without any processing intervention. The protein does the work that fat is doing in conventional sticks, and the result is a macro profile that is genuinely hard to match in a shelf-stable snack.

Ten calories fewer than the Original. Half a gram less fat. Same nine grams of protein.

For anyone tracking macros, managing calories, or trying to hit protein targets without going over on fat, those numbers represent a meaningful difference in a snack you are reaching for multiple times a week.

WHO IS JALAPEÑO FOR?

The honest answer is that the Jalapeño is for anyone who enjoys a little heat with their protein. But a few audiences tend to find it especially compelling.

Gym and fitness people whose snack decisions are driven by macros. The Jalapeño delivers 9 grams of protein at 60 calories, which gives you approximately 4.5 times more protein per calorie than the leading national brand. For someone hitting a daily protein target, that ratio matters every time they reach for a snack.

GLP-1 users and people managing appetite on reduced calorie plans. When every bite has to earn its place, 60 calories and 9 grams of protein is about as efficient as a meat snack gets. The flavor adds satisfaction without adding calories, and the heat level is mild enough that it works for just about everyone at the table.

People who are already flavor-forward snackers and have been disappointed by how conventional meat sticks handle jalapeño. Most use artificial flavoring or lean so hard into the heat that it loses the meat entirely. This one has a kick but keeps the flavor of the ostrich and beef front and center.

Families looking for a snack that actually works for everyone at the table. The Jalapeño sits in that rare category of something that satisfies heat seekers and non-heat seekers alike. Nobody has to reach for a different snack.

A NOTE ON ALPHA-GAL

We want to be clear, as we always are with this product: AOF Ostrich and Beef Snack Sticks in Jalapeño contain beef and a beef-derived collagen casing and are not suitable for individuals with alpha-gal syndrome. We know that for many of you ostrich represents one of few red meat options available, and we did not arrive at this blend lightly. Developing an alpha-gal safe version is something we are actively working toward. When we do it, it will meet the same bar we set for everything else we make.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Jalapeño is not just the spicy option. It is the leaner option, the more macro-efficient option, and for a growing number of people, the preferred option.

Nine grams of protein. Sixty calories. Real jalapeño flavor with a kick that doesn't overwhelm. An ingredient list short enough to read in under ten seconds, with nothing you need to look up.

If you haven’t tried it yet, this is your introduction. If you already have, you already know.

Take a bolder bite.

The Jalapeño earned its place in our lineup on its own merits. Real jalapeño pepper, clean ingredients, and a macro profile that delivers 4.5 times more protein per bite than the leading national brand at just 60 calories. The heat adds dimension without overwhelming the flavor. Here is what makes it different.

HOW TO RESET YOUR SKIN AT THE END OF SUMMER

By late August most people's skin is more dehydrated, more reactive, and more dull than it was in May. The barrier has been depleted over a full season of exposure and fall conditions are about to make things harder. The good news is that a reset does not have to be complicated. In most cases it means doing less, not more.

WHY PROTEIN QUALITY MATTERS MORE FOR YOUR DOG THAN PROTEIN QUANTITY

Two dog foods can show the same protein percentage on the label and deliver completely different nutritional outcomes depending on where that protein came from and how it was processed. Here is what protein quality actually means for your dog and where ostrich fits in.
