THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO PROPERLY CLEANING YOUR CROCKPOT

Crock pots, also known as slow cookers, are a staple in many kitchens due to their convenience and ability to create delicious meals with minimal effort. They are also a staple for slow cooking meat to get that tender, fall-off-the-bone meat. Some of our slow cooker recipes include ostrich chili, homemade bone broth, and ostrich lemon pepper wings. However, cleaning them properly is essential to maintain their longevity and ensure food safety. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to properly clean your crock pot, so you can continue enjoying hassle-free cooking experiences.

COOL DOWN

After cooking, it's crucial to let your crock pot cool down before attempting to clean it. Placing it in the sink or running cold water over it while it's still hot can cause damage to the ceramic insert or even lead to cracking.

REMOVE INSERT

Most crock pots have a removable ceramic or stoneware insert that can be easily lifted out. Carefully remove this insert from the heating element and place it on a flat surface to begin cleaning.

SOAK

Fill the sink or a basin with warm water and add a small amount of dish soap. Submerge the ceramic insert in the soapy water and allow it to soak for about 15-20 minutes. This will help loosen any stuck-on food particles and make them easier to remove.

SCRUB

After soaking, use a non-abrasive sponge or soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the inside of the crock pot. Pay extra attention to areas with stubborn stains or residue. Avoid using harsh abrasives or steel wool, as they can scratch the surface of the ceramic.

RINSE

Once you've finished scrubbing, rinse the crock pot thoroughly with warm water to remove any soap residue. Be sure to rinse until the water runs clear and there are no suds left behind.

DRY

After rinsing, use a clean dish towel to dry the crock pot thoroughly. Make sure to dry both the inside and outside surfaces to prevent water spots or mineral deposits from forming.

CLEAN THE  EXTERIOR

While the ceramic insert is soaking, take the time to wipe down the exterior of the crock pot with a damp cloth or sponge. Pay attention to any spills or splatters on the outside and wipe them away to keep your crock pot looking clean and tidy.

STORE

Once your crock pot is clean and dry, store it in a cool, dry place until you're ready to use it again. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of it, as this can cause damage to the lid or handles.

Properly cleaning your crock pot is essential for maintaining its performance and ensuring the safety of your food. By following these simple steps, you can keep your crock pot in top condition and continue enjoying delicious meals for years to come. So, next time you whip up a batch of your favorite slow-cooked dish, remember to give your crock pot the care it deserves!
