WHY RAW OSTRICH FOR PETS

WHY RAW OSTRICH FOR PETS

Most pet owners did not grow up thinking about ostrich as a protein option for their dog. It is not something you find at the grocery store, it is not in most commercial pet foods, and for most dogs it is a protein they have never encountered before.

That last part is exactly why it matters.

WHY RAW OSTRICH FOR PETS

Food sensitivities in pets are almost always tied to proteins the animal has been repeatedly exposed to over time. Chicken, beef, and fish are the most common triggers because they are the most common ingredients. The immune system is not responding to something harmful. It is responding to something familiar that it has learned to flag.

Novel proteins sidestep that pattern entirely.

Ostrich is a protein most dogs and cats have genuinely never been exposed to, which means it does not carry the sensitization history that conventional proteins do. For pets with diagnosed allergies, chronic digestive issues, persistent skin and coat problems, or a history of reacting to commercial foods, a novel protein like ostrich removes the most common dietary triggers and gives the gut something new to work with.

Beyond the sensitivity angle, ostrich is naturally lean, high in protein, and rich in iron and B vitamins. It provides the nutritional density of red meat without the higher fat content of conventional options like beef or pork. For most dogs it is also highly palatable, which matters more than most owners expect when transitioning a picky eater to something new.

WHY RAW

Raw feeding is not the right choice for every pet or every household. If your pet is thriving on their current diet, that is what matters most. But for pets who benefit from raw protein, the quality and integrity of what they eat matters as much as the format.

Raw ostrich from American Ostrich Farms is raised on our property in Kuna, Idaho, processed at our USDA inspected facility, and shipped frozen to maintain integrity from our facility to your door. No preservatives, no fillers, no mystery ingredients. Just ostrich.

For dogs with sensitive stomachs in particular, raw ostrich tends to digest more easily than many conventional proteins because of the lower fat content and because the body is not reacting to a familiar sensitizer.

If you have questions about whether raw feeding is appropriate for your specific pet, a conversation with your veterinarian or a veterinary nutritionist is always the right starting point.

THE RAW OSTRICH GOODIE BOX

If you have been waiting for the right time to try raw ostrich for your pet or to stock up on what you already know they love, this is it.

The Raw Ostrich Goodie Box is one of our most popular products. This is the most complete way to introduce raw ostrich to your pet or to add meaningful variety to a raw diet that may already include beef, chicken, or lamb.

The box includes four products, each chosen for nutritional value and palatability.

Ostrich Neck
Approximately 1.25 to 1.75 pounds of 3 to 4 inch pieces. Rich and meaty with vertebrae included, which are notably soft and easy to devour. A natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin alongside the protein and mineral content. Dogs and cats tend to love it immediately.

Ostrich Marrow Bones
Approximately 2 to 3 pounds of 3 to 5 inch pieces. Raw marrow-filled bones for highly satisfying chewing sessions. Rich in fat soluble vitamins and deeply engaging for dogs that are serious chewers. The mental enrichment of working through a bone is as valuable as the nutritional benefit.

Ostrich Heart
Approximately 1.25 to 2 pounds, sold whole. A muscle meat similar in taste and texture to beef or bison heart. Rich in taurine, B vitamins, CoQ10, and high quality protein. One of the most nutrient dense muscle meat additions available in raw feeding and one that most dogs take to quickly.

Ostrich Liver
Approximately 2 to 3 pounds. A nutrient dense organ meat similar to beef or bison liver in taste and texture. One of the most concentrated sources of vitamins A, B12, folate, and iron available in any food. Highly palatable for most dogs and nutritionally significant even in small amounts.

WHO THE GOODIE BOX IS FOR

The Raw Ostrich Goodie Box is designed for pets that are already on or transitioning to a raw diet, but it is also a strong option for pet owners who want to introduce raw feeding without committing to a full raw diet immediately.

A few specific situations where it tends to make the most sense:

Dogs with food sensitivities or allergies who have not responded well to conventional proteins. The novel protein angle removes the most common dietary triggers and gives the gut something genuinely new to work with.

Dogs on a raw diet who need variety. Rotating proteins is generally recommended in raw feeding to ensure nutritional balance and reduce the likelihood of developing new sensitivities. Ostrich adds meaningful variety to a rotation that may already include beef, chicken, or lamb.

Picky eaters. Ostrich is highly palatable for most dogs. The combination of meaty neck pieces, marrow bones, and organ meats provides a range of textures and flavor profiles that tends to appeal even to pets that are notoriously selective.

Pets with sensitive stomachs. Ostrich is easier to digest than many conventional proteins, in part because of its lower fat content and in part because it is a novel protein that the gut does not have a sensitized response to.

A NOTE ON RAW FEEDING

Raw feeding is not the right choice for every pet or every household, and we are not here to tell you it is. If your pet is thriving on their current diet, that is what matters.

What we do know is that for pets who benefit from raw protein, the quality of what they eat matters as much as the format. Ostrich from American Ostrich Farms is raised on our property in Kuna, Idaho, processed at our USDA inspected facility, and shipped frozen to maintain integrity from our facility to your door.

If you have questions about whether raw feeding is appropriate for your specific pet, a conversation with your veterinarian or a veterinary nutritionist is always the right starting point.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Your pet will notice. You will too.
